On the left: A group photo on a crisp bright blue October day. Later the whole
Vasquez family arrived.
On the right: A typical camp scene. There were several dozen tents. Men, women and children were in costume.
The re-enactors camp out at Cantigny the whole weekend.
On the left, part of the British contingent marching toward the field of battle. About 100 re-enactors
were involved.
On the right, the British fire at our Revolutionary soldiers. Cantigny has a large flat field so it is hard to capture
the whole scene.

Award Given at the CAR Presidential Banquet in Arlington, Virginia on April 24, 2004:
Past President of the Illinois Society of the Children of the American Revolution, John H. Ruskamp,
received this prestigious award from the SAR president at the 2004 National CAR Convention in Arlington, Virginia.
The SAR Traveling Banner award is presented to the State Society of the CAR which transferred the most new members to the SAR in the past year.

Fox Valley Chapter President Don Parrish greets the 33 members and guests, and points out that today is the 229th anniversary
of Paul Revere's ride. Chuck Sener included Longfellow's poem in the program. ILSSAR
Historian Burton Showers explains the terrible
conditions that the American POWs from the War of 1812 lived in while in the Dartmoor Prison in England. He led the project to memorialize
the more than 200 who died there with two stone markers containing all of their names.

April 18th - "Spring Dinner Meeting" - Hyatt Hotel in Lisle.
The featured talk will be by Burton Showers, the Historian of the ILSSAR on American POWs
from the War of 1812 who died in England in Dartmoor prison. There will be remarks by
Stephen Bradley, President of the ILSSAR. In addition,
a medal will be presented to the Outstanding Eagle Scout and
Fox Valley officers will be installed for 2004 thru 2005.
All SAR, DAR and CAR members and their guests are welcome to attend!!

July 3rd at 1:30 - "Marking of Patriot Grave" - East Batavia Cemetery in Batavia
Our chapter will join the Kane County Genealogical Society, the DAR, the
City of Batavia and the Batavia Historical Society to honor the memory of John Gowdy,
a soldier of the Revolution. A memorial stone will be dedicated by his
original grave stone. All Fox Valley chapter members will want to make an extra effort
to attend this very special event. For more details contact, Mike Johnston, the Chapter VP and Historian.
October 9th - "Revolutionary War Battle Recreation" - Cantigny Park in Winfield
This is the classic opportunity to see how Revolutionary War soldiers
lived in camp and see a re-creation of a battle with over 100 re-enactors. We will have an informal picnic starting at noon and
concluding by 1:00pm. This will give us time to explore the encampment and see the battle around 2pm. You are welcome to bring friends and family.
There is no cost for this event except for the parking fee at Cantigny Park.
To find the Fox Valley SAR compatriots take the left (north) parking lot and drive to the end (east). We will have a picnic table with the SAR table flags. To see a map (pdf file) of
Cantigny, click here. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow compatriots and to see a recreation of a battle of the Revolutionary War.
You can either bring food and drink with you or you can purchase them at Cantigny. See you there.
November 21st - "Fall Dinner Meeting" - Skylight Rooom at the Holiday Inn in Naperville.
The featured talk will be by Win Williams, the Editor of the SAR Magazine. Win is an interesting speaker with a vast knowledge of the SAR and the Revolutionary War period.
All SAR, DAR and CAR members and their guests are welcome to attend!!
