Fox Valley Veterans Programs

Hastert and Ron Smith Don Shee is the Chairman of our Veterans Programs and he is a Member-at-Large on the Board of the Fox Valley chapter. Don is personally active in visiting vets and he coordinates the Stark Award for our chapter.

The Fox Valley chapter is proud to support our veterans. Our major activity centers on support to vets who are either home bound or in nursing homes. The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution created the Stark Award as a way of encouraging local SAR chapters to support veterans.

The Stark Award program creates a point system to measure the total amount of participation by individual members of local SAR chapters. All chapters who accumulate 3,000 points in one year are recognized with a streamer for their chapter Flag. Don Shee, coordinator of the Stark Award, has created a one page log so that Fox Valley members can keep track of visits to vets, gifts to vets, participation in veterans activites or grave marking ceremonies of soldier who fought in the American Revolution.

Please click here to download a blank log. Please mail or e-mail logs with any amount of activity to Don by December 31st each year. Click to send an e-mail to Don with questions or to get a log.

Another way compatriots can support our veterans is to support our troops. We are familiar with an excellent, effective volunteer organization in Naperville Operation Support Our Troops - Illinois. They send individually addressed gift packages to our troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Please consider donating time or money to this worthwhile organization.

They both do this annually. Paul is a pre-med Junior at the University of Rochester and Dave is a Senior at Naperville Central.
